Adirondacks – Mic Drop! #BetterAtBarstow

Adirondacks – Mic Drop! #BetterAtBarstow

Camp Barstow offers a unique merit badge program with fun activities and amazing Scout spirit.  Here is another reason why things are #BetterAtBarstow.

Reason #4 Our Modern Camp Facilities

It’s nostalgic to take your Scouts to a camp that looked like the one that you remember with green wall tents and pit toilets in the campsites.  Yeah we don’t do that!  In every campsite you will find modern Adirondacks with electricity.  You can bring a box fan and charge your electronics at night.  Many campsites also have leader Adirondacks so the adults can get a good nights sleep. Of course if you want to bring a tent you can always run a cord and still enjoy electricity. There are flush toilets in a latrine between each site and shower facilities in both parts of camp.

If you prefer hammock camping we have that covered too.  In every campsite we have a hammock shelter built on the side of an Adirondack that will allow Scouts to use the installed rigging to go that route.

Air Conditioned Dining Hall

Our Dining Hall is a program area for us as it sits in the heart of camp.  Not only is it air conditioned but it also has 4 restrooms for adult/youth, male/female.  At every lunch and dinner we have a full salad bar available for those of us trying to eat healthier.  In the pictures below you can see that we sit family style by troop with staff guests at every table.  Because we are a small camp we don’t do cafeteria style dining with 2-shifts.  Instead at Barstow we do flags and grace outside then come in to all sit down together for the meal.

Let’s Play A Game

Free time game opportunities are all over central camp.  Your Scouts can start a pick up game of GaGa ball, cornhole, ping pong, basketball, four square, tether ball, or horseshoes.  For some of those activities we staff a camp-wide tournament and crown a champion on Friday.

Impressive Fleet of Boats

Sitting on a 50,000 acre lake Camp Barstow has invested more than $40k in our fleet the last two years.  We have a pair of motorboats that are capable of pulling the Scouts on a tube.  We have a dedicated pontoon boat for our ecology program and another pontoon boat for our fishing program. Our sailing area features 4 different types of boats from sunfish all the way up to a 26″ Hunter.  Throw in rowboats, kayaks, canoes, and stand up paddle boards and we are fully stocked to get Scouts on the water.

Free Wi-Fi In Central Camp

We have a big Wi-Fi bubble across the center part of camp from the camp office to the dining hall and trading post.  At the Sunday leader’s meeting we will share the password which is one of the week’s most guarded secrets. 🙂
