Scoutmaster Jim Rogers of Troop 2870 said it best.  On the video below he said Barstow was the first camp he’s ever attended that looked and felt like a true summer camp.  What did he mean by that?  He meant it was not a merit badge mill having the Scouts chase down easy elective merit badges until the sun went down.

Camp Barstow Shooting Sports Including Cowboy Action Shooting

Two of our popular merit badge bundle programs at Camp Barstow are focused on shooting sports. In Barstow Marksman Scouts learn Rifle Shooting and Shotgun Shooting merit badges over 2 1/2 days of their week of camp. Archery and tomahawk throwing are part of our Barstow Frontiersman program that also includes Indian Lore and some handicraft merit badges.

Last summer we rolled out a completely new way of doing merit badge instruction at Scout camp.   At most camps Scouts create a schedule of classes that has them bouncing around every hour to different program areas where they show up late and beg the counselor to let them go a few minutes early.

Things are #BetterAtBarstow in 2020. We are building on the success and rave reviews from our innovative merit badge bundle program. By expanding the program to include 59 merit badges grouped into 24 different bundles we have added a lot of variety to your choices. At Camp Barstow in 2020 Scouts can typically earn 6 merit badges by combining their pair of 1/2 week bundles to build a schedule.

2020 Camp Barstow Registration Is Open

All it takes to hold your troop’s spot at Camp Barstow in 2020 is a simple $100 deposit.  This deposit is will then go towards your overall fees but puts your name down and allows you to indicate a campsite preference.  In the simple registration process we just need to get an idea of how many youth/adults you expect to bring so we can make sure that any particular week doesn’t get too full.
